Coronavirus updated

The main symptoms of coronavirus have been updated to include loss or change to sense of smell or taste. The main symptoms are:

High temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)

New, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

Loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

Anyone experiencing any of these coronavirus symptoms should self-isolate for seven days to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.

If the symptomatic person lives with others, those members of the household should stay home for 14 days even if they do not have symptoms.

This updated information recognises that not everyone has the same symptoms of coronavirus. Some people may lose their sense of smell or taste with or without having fever and cough as other symptoms.
